The Stairway Special Safety Gate (Model SS-30) is our maximum indoor safety gate for children and pets, designed with your family’s safety in mind. This gate features a sophisticated latch system that confounds toddlers while allowing easy one-handed operation for adults. It swings open in both directions and is wall-mounted for superior strength and stability. Certified by the Juvenile Product Manufacturers Association (JPMA), it can be installed at angles of up to 30 degrees, offering versatile placement options. Ideal for ensuring child and pet safety, supervision, preventing accidents, and more. Cardinal Gates has proudly produced this gate since 1996, available in Black, White, and Wood.
If you’re using this gate outdoors, we recommend the SS-30OD, our Outdoor Stairway Special with all stainless-steel hardware.
Note: Extensions are available for Aluminum gates only. Banister / Installation clamps shown in photo are sold separately.
Stairway Special Wood:
- Safe & Secure: Features a toddler-proof latch system with one-hand adult operation. It opens in both directions and includes an optional one-way stop bracket to limit opening over stairs. JPMA certified for safety.
- Easy to Install: Wall-mounted for superior strength and peace of mind. Can be mounted at angles up to 30° for easy stud alignment on drywall.
- Adjustable: Fits openings 29″ – 49.5″ wide, with a height of 29.5″ and 2.5″ bar spacing. Extensions not available for this model.
- Versatile Design: Ideal for child and pet safety, supervision, and accident prevention. Perfect for stairs, doorways, hallways, kitchens, and more. Awarded “Best Baby Gate” by Wirecutter (June 2021).
